Barry Donaldson has 35 years of clinical physiotherapy experience (private practice), a PhD in exercise prescription for the injured person, he is a qualified manipulative physiotherapist, a former Canterbury, NZRU and All Black physiotherapist. Barry has three decades of working with elite athletes and fourteen years of experience, teaching post-graduate physiotherapists on the topic of exercise prescription for the injured person.
The aim of the course “Exercise prescription to BUILD your business” is to: Enhance your personal training business, teach methods of client driven contact, continuation; increase knowledge of whole body muscle balance and core muscle function; education on common, client injury presentations, and managing these injuries with gym rehabilitation.
Exercise prescription to BUILD your business
This course is designed to provide advanced knowledge, both theoretical and practical, specifically for clients requiring physical rehabilitation. The course will also provide value added effect for your general clients.
This course is REP’s accredited for ten points and will include an assessment at days end to ensure the key principles are understood.
The course consists of three key topics:
1) Biomechanical assessment: Involving objective measurement of core strength and coordination, whole body flexibility ratios and muscle firing patterns.
2) Therapeutic exercise progressions: Based on the results from the biomechanical assessment, a corrective exercise rehabilitation plan is designed. The course teaches how to design and execute this exercise plan.
3) Specific rehab guidelines and time frames for physical goals after common injuries/surgeries that present to you, the personal trainer. The joints covered in this section are shoulders, hips, knees and low back.

Timetable
8.15am to 8.30am: Introduction and the days structure.
8.30am to 9.40am: The core and abdominals, theory and practise.
9.40am to 10.10am: Learning how to measure the deep abdominals using the pressure cuff.
10.10am to 10.30am: Morning tea
10.30am to 11.30am: Biomechanical assessment, theory and practise.
11.30am to 12.00pm: Specific gluteal training exercises for rehabilitation.
12.00pm to 1.00pm: Lunch
1.00pm to 3.00pm: Common pathologies; anatomy and rehab guidelines/timeframes for these conditions.
3.00pm to 3.15pm: Afternoon tea
3.15 to 4.30pm: Summarising the day, clarifying points of interest and final hints on some key rehab exercises.
4.30 to 5.00pm: Assessment
Just did this course with Barry. Best course I’ve done for years, and you can’t beat all his many years of experience. He gave us great tools to use with clients, and the course was interactive so got a good workout too! Highly recommended 🙂
